Note who Paul is addressing here, and note cultural background of the time*Ģ) Note that when scripture tells women to learn in submissiveness, it is my belief, as stated by other ministers of the Gospel, that it does not mean that they are always only to be learning, but that when they are learning, they must do so this way, with submissiveness.ģ) In Acts, Paul's fellow worker Priscilla (Aquila's wife) taught Apollos, (of course, with the help of her husband). *Also note, women were causing disruption (loud and aggressive) in the church of Ephesus, and many were dressing and conducting themselves as prostitutes. What I've found from scripture and word analysis:ġ) 1 Tim 2:11 (Let women learn in silence) The greek word/term "silence" can, and is, also interpreted as "peaceful", "peaceable", so note that women should remain peaceful, or atleast, those professing Godliness (v.10) Note 2 Thessalonians 3:13, where the 'busybodies' are instructed to do their work in 'silence' (same rendition of word 'silence' in 1 Tim 2:11) They believe women leadership is allowed. I'll let you in on what I have uncovered.ġ) many pastors/ministers believe that this verse is to be translated literally, and that women should not reside as pastors or teachersĢ) many pastors/ministers believe this is not at all what the scripture is saying. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."Īs extensive as my research has been on this, I must admit to you that one's interpretation of this scripture should have many elements of consideration. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 1 TIMOTHY 2:10, 11, 12: But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
